AASU, AJYCP express Concern over Morigaon DC’s remark on NRC Final Draft

Morigaon, Aug 2: Organizations like All Assam Students’ Union (AASU), Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) and Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) expressed serious concern over the Morigaon Deputy Commissioner’s remark that some declared foreigners’ names had reportedly been included in the NRC final draft in Morigaon district. Morigaon DC Hemen Das told media persons on Thursday that names of 39 doubtful families of the district had been included in the draft. However, the DC did not disclose the names and addresses of those D-voters. Sources of the Border Police of Morigaon district said that as per the directives of the foreigner’s tribunal, all illegal migrants were either sent to detention camps or jail.

Following the disclosure of the DC, Morigaon, the AASU, AJYCP and KMSS have demanded the authority to repeal the names of the foreigners from the NRC. On the other hand, names of several genuine Indian citizens were not included in NRC from Gunamara, Ajarbari areas under Dharamtul PS. The families of Pannalal Sarkar and Nagar Sarkar, who had made great contribution to the Assamese society, were not included in NRC. However, the family members said that there might be some technical error in the draft so they would claim for inclusion of their names. The members of the Sarkar family of Ajarbari area, however, condemned the latest political move of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to create confusion among the Bengali people of Assam at a time when they are peacefully living in Assam.

Meanwhile, a criminal case was registered at Jagiroad PS against Mamata Banerjee by KMSS leader Badan Sarma for fomenting communal tension in Assam. Another glaring error was also reported in Lahorighat where distinguished lady and former Principal of Lahorighat HS School, Noor Nehar Begum’s name was not included in the draft NRC. Morigaon MLA Rama Kanta Deori’s name was also not included in the draft NRC. He blamed the authority concerned, saying that hundreds of tribal voters’ names had also not been included in draft NRC in Morigaon district.
