AASU stages road blockade in Lakhimpur

LAKHIMPUR, April 4: The poor condition of the North Lakhimpur and Majuli Kamala Bari connecting road, known as KB Road, has made people of Lakhimpur and Majuli districts suffer. The deplorable condition of the busy road from Ulubari to Lohit Khabolu has caused much inconvenience for the people. Aggrieved at the condition of the road and the negligence on the part of the Public Works Department (PWD) regarding the repair of the same, the Telahi Kamalaboria Regiol unit of AASU staged road blockade on Tuesday.

Initiating the protest at Ulubari, the activists of the organization blocked the regular plying of all kinds of vehicles through the road for four hours demanding its immediate construction. Fince secretary of the central committee, Krish Das, Lakhimpur district secretary Dhanmoni Dutta and other leaders lambasted the district administration as well as the State Government.

Filly, BDO Hemanta Kumar Pegu, representing the district administration, arrived at the spot and requested them to withdraw the protest. The protesters submitted a memorandum to the PWD Minister in support of their demands through the Deputy Commissioner of Lakhimpur.
