GOLAGHAT, May 3: The activists of All Assam Tai Ahom Students’ Union (AATASU) Golaghat district burnt the effigies of  Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Thursday in Golaghat town, protesting against the decision taken by the BJP government to hand over the maintenance of heritage site of Assam to private companies. The activists shouted various slogans against the BJP government at the Centre and the State for handing over the maintenance of heritage sites Rang Ghar, Kareng Ghar, Shiva Dol and Kaziranga National Park of Assam to private companies. The president and secretary of the organization said that sentiments of the people of Assam were attached to the Rang Ghar, Kareng Ghar and Shiva Dol as they are monuments and signs of contribution of the Ahom rulers.
They said that AATASU would never allow the government to hand over the maintenance of the heritage sites to private companies and they would carry out massive democratic protests against government if it did not withdraw the decision.
