Shillong, May 24: An abandon newborn baby girl was recovered at Mawkynrew village on Thursday morning while with the assistance of the village folks the mother was detected. Followint the case The Sentinel found that the mother is a cook at a Christian mission house at Mawkynrew. This was also confirmed by the Superintendent of Police , East Khasi Hills district, Davis N Marak. While mother has been admitted to the Ganesh Das Hospital in Shillong for treatment, the one-day baby was also rushed to the same hospital and was admitted to the SSNC ward. The Medical Superintendent of the hospital Dr N Wanswett told The Sentinel, “The condition of the baby is stable and she is under observation.” However, the concern is that such cases of abandoning babies is on the rise. “ We have cradle points in each and every hospitals where mothers who don’t want to take care of their babies can place them there instead of dumping them somewhere, but to no avail,” stated Dr Wanswett. She said that these cradle points are available not only in Shillong but in all the districts of the state. The Medical Superintendent also said that cases of abandoning new born have been coming off and on in the past few years.

While the social media has let loose its wrath against the guilty mother, the East Khasi Hills SP said, “The law will take the necessary course of action,” adding that a case has been registered.
