ABSU’s golden jubilee celebration gets under way

KOKRAJHAR, Feb 12: The historic golden jubilee celebration and 49th session of the All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU) got under way from Sunday at Jangkrithai Fwthar, Kokrajhar.

The president of the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) Dipankar th, while iugurating the golden jubilee celebration, said the AASU and ABSU had been maintaining good relationship since the 90s for the common issues of the State. He praised the ABSU for playing a vital role in building the Bodos into a strong society. He also said the Bodos had reached such a stage because of the hard work of the ABSU for the community.

th said the failure of the State Government to distribute the Bodo medium textbooks on time was very unfortute and a great injustice. “We supported the ABSU’s decision to block the distribution of textbooks of other medium schools until the books of Bodo medium are distributed,” he said adding that everybody should think equally for all indigenous people of the State. He said, “From this Jangkrithai Fwthar, I warn the Government of Assam that the AASU and ABSU will launch joint movement against the failure of the State Education department to distribute textbooks on time.” He said 40 days had passed but it was very unfortute that the textbooks of Bodo medium had not reached the schools and as a result classes were being affected.

The AASU president said the AASU and ABSU were concerned over the issues related to the indigenous communities of the State and the students’ union had been keeping a close tab on correct NRC, detection of foreigners and complete sealing of Indo-Bangladesh border. He said the AASU never believed in the comments of intellectuals who had lack of practical knowledge about the geographical and territorial boundary. He also said the AASU would not compromise on integrity and territory. He also warned the organizations which called bandh during the golden jubilee celebration of the ABSU and said the organizations should respect the interest of the ABSU.

The president of the ABSU, Promod Boro and AASU president Dipankar th formally iugurated the golden jubilee celebration by kindling the light and guests released the balloons. The leader of Vidharva movement and former advocate general of Maharashtra, Sreehari Aney attended the function as chief guest. The golden jubilee celebration on Sunday was also addressed by Shreehari Aney, senior jourlists Samudra Gupta Kashyap, Adip Phukan, Paragmoni Aditya and Maini Mahanta and was also attended by NDFB (P) chairman Dhiren Boro, former MP Sansuma Khunggur Bwiswmuthiary, former Rajya Sabha MP UG Brahma and chairman of Mising Autonomous Council, Paramanda Chayengia.
