Accident kills one in Shibpur at Silchar

Silchar, July 24: In a most unfortunate incident, Jonathan Vaiphei (32), a resident of Jorkha village under Jirighat police station, lost his life while he and his brother Samuel Vaiphei (34) who were riding a motorcycle was hit by another motorcycle which was coming from the opposite direction. The accident took place at Shibpur on NH 37 recently when both Jonathan and Samuel, brothers, were going to Silchar from Fulertal, Hmarkhawlien. The two motorcycles collided with each other which threw the bike riders on the road. Jonathan under the impact of the collision received serious injuries and died on the spot.

His brother, who received severe injuries, was rushed to the nearby Emmanuel Rural Hospital which referred him to Silchar Medical College and Hospital. Upon receiving the information, Inspector Anwar Hussain Choudhury, officer in-charge, Lakhipur police station along with ASI M N Singha reached the spot. Jonathan’s body was sent to Silchar Medical College and Hospital for autopsy. Police seized 2 motorcycles, one bearing No AS 11 N 6167 which belongs to Jonathan. Police is still searching for the other two motorcyclists. It is presumed that they too received serious injuries. The accident has created wide sensation in the areas of Shibpur and Pailapool.

Jonathan Vaiphei is an assistant teacher at 287 LP School, Laduma under Rajabazaar block elementary education office. Samuel Vaiphei is also an assistant teacher which probably falls under Salchappra block elementary education office. They came to Silchar to appear for the DLED examination. For their convenience in reaching the schools, they used to stay at the house of their friend at Hmarkhawlien. After mortal remains of Jonathan reached the village, hundreds of Hmarkhawlein villagers and staff of Rajabazaar block elementary education office paid their tearful homage to the departed soul and joined the burial ceremony.
