ACKHSA President takes U-Turn, blames KMSS and Muslim organisations for Communal Tension in Cachar

Guwahati: Assam Police to transfer all the registered cases against the founder President of All Cachar Karimganj Hailakandi Students Association (ACKHSA), Pradip Dutta Roy to Cachar Police Station for further investigation.

The founder President of All Cachar Karimganj Hailakandi Students Association (ACKHSA), Pradip Dutta Roy was recently seen in a viral video threatening all the Assamese students studying in Assam University for protesting the controversial Citizenship Amendment Bill, 2016.

Following the communal and provoking statements by Roy, Special DGP of Assam Police, Pallab Bhattacharya on Saturday told The Sentinel Digital that Assam Police will be transferring all the registered cases on Roy to Cachar since he belongs to that place. “We will soon send him a summon notice for his alleged provoking statements against the students of Assamese community studying in Assam University,” said Pallab Bhattacharya.

It may be mentioned that on Friday evening, Roy issued another video taking his earlier statements back. Roy in his statements said, “I got to know that the persons who were protesting against the bill on Thursday inside the premises of Assam University were of peasant leader, Akhil Gogoi’s members and few of them were from ‘Khilonjia Barak Muslim Youth’ Group. In fact, not a single student’ from Assam University was involved in the protest that day. I have no issue with the Assamese students studying at Assam University. The members of KMSS and other Muslim organizations are trying to communalize the students in the Assam University, thus, I urge all the students for indulging in any kind of protest in the University campus. This bill will be passed by Central Government; therefore, one shouldn’t get involved in any kind of protest against the bill.”

He further stated that Assam University is for all, students of every section come here for higher studies. “Interestingly, the students’ Union along with the President, Dhrubajyoti Mahanta who is an Assamese youth recently held a meeting supporting the bill, thus, I have no problem with any Assamese youth who are here to study,” Roy added.

Provoking Statements by Former President of All Cachar Karimganj Hailakandi Students Association (ACKHSA), Pradip Dutta Roy

It is to be noted that in his earlier video, Roy provoked the people of Brahmaputra valley saying, “We have fought more than 10 years for this university under the banner of ACKHSA amidst strong opposition from AASU and the AGP. Strong action should be taken by the VC and Registrar against the students who were involved in holding a candlelight protest against the bill. I appeal all of them to concentrate on their study rather than coming out for protest against the bill. We will be bound to take harsh steps so that none of the Assamese students get their name registered in the University in the near future.”

Assam Police View Point

On the other hand, Pallab Bhattacharya also informed that we have received the copy of the video, however, we will proceed with our due investigation process.

Earlier, several cases have been lodged against the president Roy by several sections of people and organizations. AASU issued a statement at Guwahati on Friday to take strong actions against Dutta Roy. A case to has been registered at Dibrugarh Sadar Police Station, Dispur Police Station, Pan Bazaar Police, Digboi Police Station. Also, Durnitibirudhi Oikya Mancha lodged a case in Golaghat Police Station.

As per reports, Pro-talk ULFA leader Anup Chetia on Saturday claimed before the media that there is a “Government Lobby” which keeps backing people like Pradip Dutta Roy, MLAs Shiladitya Dev, Legislator, Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha to fuel the “feelings of communalism” between Assamese and Bengali speaking people.

Meanwhile, the Registrar of Assam University with the prior approval from the VC on Friday issued a circular stating any kind of gathering of people within the periphery of University campus without prior approval of the authority is hereby strictly prohibited until further order.

It may further be mentioned that any unauthorized reporting, if found henceforth will be treated as the violation of public order and the person or persons involved in such violation will be held responsible as per Rules.
