Act against those who didn’t act against polluters: Supreme Court to CPCB

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday directed the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) to take action against the officers who did not act on its information about polluters in Delhi and NCR. The CPCB on Monday told the bench of Justice Madan B. Lokur and Justice Deepak Gupta that it had received complaints against people and industry contributing to pollution in its social media accounts on Twitter and Facebook and the same were forwarded to the nodal officers but no action was taken on them.

In all, the CPCB had told the bench, it had received 746 complaints on pollution in the national capital and NCR in its social media accounts. The CPCB had last month opened social media accounts on Twitter and Facebook for registering complaints about environmental pollution. Meanwhile, the court was informed that nearly 21,000 industrial units operating from non-conforming areas or residential areas had been closed with their power and water connection turned off.
