‘Adopt Measures To Control Population’ Says Alo Libang

Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Health and Family Welfare Minister Alo Libang on Thursday exhorted the health officials to adopt measures to effectively deal with the growing population in the country. Gracing the World Population Day at Kendriya Vidyalaya Naharlagun, near here, Alo Libang said that the reason of observation of the day is not for happiness but a serious issue before us to ponder on how to check and control over catastrophic growing population which will certainly lead to economical imbalance in the world in general and in India in particular. The function was organized by the State Health Society.

Family Welfare director Dr A Yirang in his keynote address, informed that the world population has reached 7.023 billion.

“China being the most populous country has reached 1.41 billion population and India being the second most populous country next only to China has already crossed 1.34 billion as per the 2011 census and it is estimated by the experts that India’s population will overtake China’s population by the year 2030,” he said.

“It has become a serious concern for all of us to check and control the rapidly and fast growing population and for this we have to adopt and follow awareness campaign on education, medical methods like use of contraceptive tablet, vasectomy, tubectomy to maintain small family which will lead to balanced economic growth for quality life,” Dr Yirang added.

The minister also released a comic book – Arun-Aachal on adolescent health which, has been written under the initiative and guidance of former Health & Family Welfare Secretary Dr Kinni Singh.

Other highlights of the programme were a video show on family planning, skit performance on small family and happy family and flagging off a motor bicycle rally by the minister under national vector borne control programme.
