After Assam, Now RSS Demands NRC in Bengal, Launches Massive Door-To-Door Campaign

Kolkata: Following the implementation of NRC in Assam, the the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) in a bid to call for the same, has now initiated a similar campaign for implementation of a citizens’ list in Bengal which is set on the same guidelines as to that of Assam’s National Register of Citizens (NRC) that seeks to weed out illegal Bangladeshi migrants who have trespassed into the state.

Pro-NRC drives have already begun in Bengal under the aegis of the Saffron Party’s wing RSS and all its frontal organizations. All districts of West Bengal which borders with Bangladesh have been chalked out as the sites of primary focus and a door-to-door campaign has been launched to convince people about the horrors of future with unlimited infiltration of Bangladeshi Muslims into the state.

The RSS Bengal secretary Jishnu Basu reportedly told and was quoted by a leading National English Daily that, “We will take all efforts to convince people and implement NRC in Bengal. Without NRC, there is no way that can save this state from Bangladeshi Muslims.”

Basu further reiterated about the importance and dire need of NRC in Bengal saying that the Sangh Parivar already initiated a massive campaign and is now approaching on a door-to-door basis in nine bordering districts in Bengal, adding that the campaign will be spread across all districts in coming months.

The RSS in order to seek legal intervention in the implementation of NRC, has further formed a committee of senior lawyers who are working on filing petitions before the Calcutta High Court and, if needed, the Supreme Court.

Reportedly, Basu, Claiming that NRC process would be instrumental in saving the state from “jihadis” of Bangladesh, he said, “We have formed many small groups which are travelling to districts and assisting our local volunteers to meet the villagers and convince them about the process.”

The RSS and all its affiliated bodies are also running various camps which are aimed at awaring the local villagers about the required documents for NRC and the process along with the benefits that they and their future generations would reap if the problem of illegal migrants is solved, added Basu.

Basu further clarified while talking about NRC process in Assam, where lakhs of Bengali Hindus were left out of the draft list he quoted, “We will not allow a single Hindu family to become refugee again,” he said. “They have tolerated enough torture following partition. We will ensure that this will not be repeated. This is the first such step for the Hindu refugees taken by any government in the country. But some Opposition parties like Trinamool Congress are as opposed to this bill as they are against the NRC.”

Meanwhile, BJP National General Secretary also mentioned that the BJP is also running similar awareness and sensitization campaign on the NRC issue.

He further claimed that the infiltration issue has become a national security issue as approximately 2 crore people residing in the country are illegal migrants and some of these infiltrators formed Panchayat boards, which according to the BJP General Secretary is a situation of concern for the government as well as the state.
