Agatha paves way for Conrad

SHILLONG, July 2: National People’s Party (NPP) legislator from South Tura, Agatha K Sangma has resigned as member of the Meghalaya Assembly to pave way for her brother, Conrad K Sangma to contest from the seat.

According to NPP sources, Agatha submitted his resignation letter before Assembly deputy speaker, Timothy D Shira at around 4.30 pm, however the media was not informed about it.

When contacted, she said that even though presently she has not been assigned any role in the NPP but will still continue in her role as the chairperson of Climate Change and Sustainable Development.

When quipped if she will be contesting the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, Agatha said that there has been no discussion on this issue.

Polls for both Ranikor and South Tura seats will be held at the same time. Agatha is also a former Member of Parliament of India, and was part of the 15th Lok Sabha. She represented the Tura constituency of Meghalaya following the 2009 parliamentary election as a candidate of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP).She was the youngest Minister of State in the UPA government led by Manmohan Singh.
