Age manipulations for RIMS Director post

FROM OUR SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT

IMPHAL, July 7: Regiol Institute of Medical Sciences, Imphal which was set up in 1972 for providing medical studies to the students of the NE region excluding Assam has been in the news for all the wrong reasons.

The latest scam concerns the age manipulation by the aspirants for the post of director which will fall vacant on September 15 this year. As in case of all medical colleges the candidate, if appointed, shall be in the office for five years or till he reaches 65 years of age, whichever is earlier.

It can be mentioned here that, the decision to this age limitation was taken in a meeting of the executive council of RIMS which is its governing body in a meeting held on August 5, 2011. It was ratified and confirmed by the executive council on August 22, 2012. It was also confirmed by the health ministry on May 3, 2012. This is the practice in all medical colleges in the country which come under the health ministry.

However, an advertisement issued by the health ministry on June 23 last, for the post of the director of RIMS seems to have bent rules as it clearly mentioned that appointment will be for a five year term or to a maximum age of 62, whichever is earlier. Though it is not clear as who have bent the rules, it is clear that this arrangement has been made to facilitate someone close to the ministry.  Interestingly, even though the advertisement was published on June 24, the Deputy Director (Administration) Y Rajendra who has been deputed by the union health ministry is maintaining silence on the issue.

Meanwhile , questioning the silence of the Deputy Director, the concerned citizens and intellectuals of the State have demanded an immediate explation from him.
