Agitated villagers in Golaghat demand compensation of Rs 1 Crore for Ex-BSF Jawan's Family

Guwahati/Golaghat: On Thursday, Local people of Habiyal village in Dhekial under Golaghat district on Thursday protested against the killing of former BSF soldier, Gyanendra Rajkhowa by a team of police led by Deputy Superintendent of Police, Partha Pratim Saikia.

Terming the incident as the Murder of Democracy, the agitated people had demanded the arrest of DSP Partha Pratim Saikia within 24 hours and also a compensation of Rs 1 crore for the family of Rajkhowa.

Also, a complaint was lodged against DSP Partha Pratim Saikia by the father of the deceased Gyanendra Rajkhowa at Dhekial Police Station.

It may be mentioned that An Ex-BSF Jawan on Wednesday allegedly injured at least four people with a sharp Machete in Golaghat’s 1 No Habiyal Village of Ganakpukhuri polling station.

The ex-BSF jawan was also reported mentally unstable.

Also, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Partha Pratim Saikia earlier informed that the ex-BSF Jawan Rajkhowa had chased the on-duty police personnel at the polling station with the machete.

Following which the police personnel resorted to blank fire in the air to scare the jawan, but shot him in his leg later as he was irresistible, stated DSP.

DSP Partha Pratim Saikia further stated that they tried to bring him under control, but failed in the first attempt. “We tried to scare him by blank firing, but he chased us with the machetes. Later, he was shot on his leg,” said ASP.
