AGP hits back at Gohain

GUWAHATI, May 21: Rubbishing the statement of the Union Minister of State for Railways Rajen Gohain, two AGP MLAs, Ramendra Narayan Kalita and Pabindra Deka hit back at the Minister on Monday. The duo stressed that if raising a voice for the people of Assam is a form of violation of the rule of etiquette, then the regional party will dare to continue violating it for the greater interest of the people of Assam.

Earlier, Gohain alleged that the AGP president Atul Bora violated the rule etiquette while delivering his lecture registering the party’s opposition to the proposed Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 during the third conclave of the NEDA held in Guwahati on May 20 in front of the BJP national president Amit Shah.

Condemning the Union Minister for his defamatory statement, the youth wing of the AGP, Asom Yuba Parishad president Sunil Deka asked, “Who is Rajen Gohain?” Terming the people of Assam as the High Command of the AGP, Deka determined that the party will violate the rule of etiquette thousand times to protect the people of Assam. The youth president also appealed the Union Minister to conduct himself.

Notably, despite being an ally of the BJP-led coalition government in Dispur, the AGP president and Agriculture Minister Bora registered protest against the Bill emphasizing that the legislation will violate the Assam accord. He also appraised how the proposed legislation will change the demography of Assam in front of Shah besides stating that there should not be division on the basis of religion.
