AHSEC Prepones The Dates of Higher Secondary Final Exams

GUWAHATI: The Assam High Secondary Education Council (AHSEC) has decided to prepone the dates of the HS final examinations 2019 with an aim to enable students to get extra time to compete for all India entrance examinations.

As per the new schedule, the HS final examinations 2019 for science, arts and commerce streams will be held from February 12. The last examinations began on February 23. Practical examinations will start from January 11, 2018, and expected to be over by the same month.

“We are planning to conclude the HS final examinations 2019 by March 20. In earlier years the examinations used to continue till April and conclude just on the eve of Rongali Bihu. In 2019 the exams will be over by March 20 and students will get nearly a month time to prepare themselves to sit for the all India entrance examinations for various courses and disciplines,” an AHSEC official told The Sentinel on Wednesday.

On other hands, the AHSEC has also changed the time of the examinations. Unlike the previous years, the examinations will not be held during the afternoon hours in 2019. Examinations will be held in the first half of the day or morning hours.

The official said the decision to change of the day timing for examinations was taken on two grounds. He said sending question papers to certain examinations centres at sensitive areas during the second half of the day or afternoon hours is fraught with security concerns. “So all HS exams in 209 will be held in the first half of the day,” he said.

According to the official students remain more alert and concentration level is better during the morning hours. “So it is also scientific to hold exams in morning hours,” he said.
