Airport Authority of India Extends Helping Hand To Cancer Patients

GUWAHATI: Airport Authority of India (AAI) is a Miniratna Category-I Public Sector Enterprise that manages a total of 129 Airports in the country which include International, Customs, Domestic Airports and Civil Enclaves at Defense Airfields. AAI also provides Air Traffic Management Services (ATMS) over entire Indian Air Space and adjoining oceanic areas with ground installations at all Airports and 25 other locations to ensure safety of Aircraft operations.

Cancer is a disease that not only affects a person; the entire family gets affected by the pain and ordeal of the illness. And to understand the problems faced by their relatives, Sanjeev Jindal, Regional Executive Director, Airports Authority of India, NER visited DR B Borooah Cancer Institute, Guwahati last week.

According to a press release, Jindal first volunteered (Shramdaan) by serving langar to the people in the hospital premises and also had a taste of the food with them.

The langar was arranged by Khalsa Centre North-East Chapter and is provided free here every Wednesday. Then, he interacted with the members of the Khalsa centre to know the motivation behind this free food being served to the patients and their attendants in the Hospital. Capt PP Singh, the President of the NER Khalsa Centre said that they have employed deprived women and those widowed in their mid-life due to this menace (cancer). They mostly belong to the underprivileged section of the society living in the vicinity of hospital and have no source of income for their livelihood.

Later Jindal also met Director, Dr B Borooah Cancer Institute, Guwahati, Dr Amal Ch Kataki, where they discussed measures to develop patient facilities in the premises. The future plans for extension of the hospital was also discussed where AAI could be a helping hand. The meeting ended on a healthy note with mutual assurance from RED, AAI to provide them all possible help for the structuring of the facilities in the hospital.
