Price hike of essential commodities

FROM A CORRESPONDENT

JORHAT, June 3: The women wing of the Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP)’s Jorhat district committee today took out a protest rally in Jorhat on Friday against the rendra Modi led NDA government for failing to check price rise of essential commodities like LPG, petrol and diesel besides food items. This is the first such protest after BJP formed government in the state.

The AJYCP activists who were stopped in front of the entrance of the Deputy Commissioner’s office, shouted slogans against the Prime Minister and the Union Food and Civil Supplies Minister.

Talking to The Sentinel, a leader of the women wing said, “The central government is seen hiking prices of food grains and other essential commodities which is directly affecting the common people who had come out in large numbers to vote for a change thinking that the new government would provide relief. But it seems that the state government is helpless in the wake of the center’s decision.”

“We demand that the government cut the prices of the essential commodities. Prices of eggs, onion, and potatoes have gone up abnormally. The government must think about the women community. We face lot of hardships because of price hike in LPG cylinders. And that is why we had decide to protest in a unique way by wearing the mask of the PMO to draw his attention towards us”, she added.
