AJYCP takes out protest rally against Citizenship (Amendment) Bill

Jorhat, May 16: Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) organized a gana-samabeh in Jorhat city for over several hours on Wednesday. The protest rally was kicked off from Bisturam Baruah Hall AT Road through via Gar-Ali, KB Road, JB Road, Seouni Ali and a memorandum was submitted to Narayan Konwar, the Deputy Commissioner of Jorhat, at his office chamber, following which a rally was held in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office where several organizational leaders spoke against the NDA government’s motive regarding the Citizenship Amendment Bill.

Polash Changmai, secretary of AJYCP, Samiran Bordoloi, social activist-cum-former Assam Agitation leader, Niranjan Mahanta, president of Jorhat Press Club and Jul Khound, AASU central committee publicity secretary took part in the rally. “The Narendra Modi government in the past four years gave us nothing. Instead, he is trying to de-stabilize the region by making it a dumping ground for Hindu Bangladeshis. The intention is to create a permanent vote-bank by wiping out the Assamese people at large but this will not be tolerated,” said Polash Changmai, AJYCP general secretary, during the rally on Wednesday.

During the protest rally, activists of various sports clubs, Axam Xahitya Xabha, Upper Assam Chamber of Commerce, Assam Minority Students’ Association, Nepali Students’ Union, Nepali Senior Citizen’s Forum, Lawyers’ Association, All Assam Tea Tribe Students’ Association, Lekhika Samaroh, trade unions and Jorhat Press Club took part in the gana samabeh against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, said Putul Dutta, AJYCP president.
