A CORRESPONDENT

LAKHIMPUR, June 8: The Lakhimpur district unit of Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Parishad (AJYP) observed Black Day in Lakhimpur on Thursday. One month ago the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) had arrived in Assam. As a part of the State-wide programme taken by the organization, the Lakhimpur district unit also opposed the controversial Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 and demanded the immediate scrapping of it. Lulu Baruah, president, and Mobin Ahmed, secretary of the district unit, expressed zero tolerance against the Bill and lambasted the Narendra Modi government for its soft corner for Hindu foreigners. The activists of the organization observed the Black Day wearing black badges, hoisting black flags and flying black balloons in the district headquarter.
