GUWAHATI: The recent attack on the CRPF killing 49 of their personnel in Pulwama district of Jammu & Kashmir has a huge ripple effect elsewhere in the country, including Assam. Alert has been sounded in the entire State to prevent any forces inimical to India or Assam from dealing a blow.

On the sidelines of a function in Guwahati, State DGP Kuladhar Saikia said that Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal held a meeting on security aspects on Friday. “He told us to take all measures. We’re well equipped with all intelligence inputs received from various agencies. We’ve asked all SPs to remain alert and not to neglect any of the intelligence inputs they’ve,” the DGP said.

Meanwhile, a highly-placed source in the Special Branch (SB) said: “We’ve also been asked to remain vigilant so that no section in society can give the current situation in the country and the State a communal colour.”

Meanwhile, the mortal remains of Maneswar Basumatary have arrived in the State. CRPF trooper Basumatary is among the 49 personnel who lost their lives in the suicide attack in Jammu & Kashmir.
