All Arunachal Pradesh Students' Union suspends Operation Clean Drive

ITANAGAR: The All Arunachal Pradesh Students' Union (AAPSU) has decided to temporarily suspend its 'operation clean drive' after two days' intensive drive which saw detection of more than 2,000 Inner Line Permit (ILP) violators across the State.

"The ILP Issue Committee of the AAPSU, which had launched the state-wide 'Operation Clean Drive' against illegal immigrants and ILP violators with effect from August 17 last, has decided to temporarily suspend phase-1 of the operation on Sunday," said a release from the apex students' body.

"The two-day operation saw detection of 2205 ILP violators all across the State as per reports submitted to the Union by its various federal units i.e. district students' unions (DSUs)," it informed, adding that the figure may increase as some of the area in-charges and DSUs are yet to submit the report due to communication problem.

The AAPSU said, these violators should be immediately deported from the State and necessary actions initiated under the provisions of Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation (BEFR) of 1873.

"There are also reports from various districts that ILP violators caught during the 'Operation Clean Drive' are being let off without any action. The authorities concerned should look into it with the right earnest," the AAPSU said.

The Union, meanwhile, informed that a consultative meeting with all the district students'unions has been scheduled on August 23 next wherein further consultations shall be held.

It added, the phase-2 of Operation Clean Drive shall be announced after the consultative meet. Representatives of the AAPSU's ILP Issue Committee shall also meet the state government regarding the issue.

Further claiming that during the drive it has come to the knowledge of the union that various shopkeepers and brokers, mostly non-APSTs, were involved in issuing fake ILPs, the AAPSU demanded strict action should also be taken against them.

The AAPSU and the entire OCD team acknowledged the support and cooperation of the administration and the police including citizens who had wholeheartedly rendered support to the Union during the two-day drive.
