All Assam Amateur Golf C’ship kicks off at Digboi

DIGBOI, Jan 29 : The 38th edition of the All Assam Amateur Golf Championship got underway at Digboi Golf Links here this morning at Digboi. The three-day tourment, organized under the aegis of the Upper Assam Golf Association (UAGA) , is the most popular amateur tourment in North East India, with more than two  hundreds of confirmed entries. The entries have poured in from various parts of Assam, Bengal, Manipur, Meghalaya, West Bengal and also from Cada.

 The tourment was   iugurated in the morning by Amitava Mishra Executive Director I/C IOCL (AOD) following the hoisting of   UAGA flag by Vivek Seth the President of the Association   in the presence of digtries including   UAGA Secretary Dr. MK Baruah ,  Rajiv Kalita the GM (HR) AOD, PK Goswami the Organising Secretery,AK Bhagawati the  DGM(HR) who was also the Captain Digboi Golf Links and a large gathering of players and invited dignitaries. A colourful souvenir was also released to mark the occasion following the release of colorful balloons in the sky during the iugural ceremony.

According to organizing committee, 38 golfers in 0-9 H’cap category, 130 in 10 -18 H’Cap category, 45 in 18+ H and 8 ladies golfers would fight for the C’Ship this year here in Digboi Golf Links.

Addressing the significant gathering, Mishra who was the chief guest on the iugural ceremony, welcomed all the golfers from different corners of the country and abroad and highlighted the tural landscape and topography of the Golf Course. he  describe the picturesque of  Digboi Golf Links, situated adjacent to the Upper Dehing reserve forest, as the only 18 hole golf course in Upper Assam with a par of 72 and yardage of 6309 for gents and 5242 for ladies. The course is undulating with a fair sprinkling of tural hazards. deer , tigers elephants, leopards and a wide variety of flora and fau can be spotted on the course, which also boasts of scenic views of the Patkai Hills. Mishra also lauded the efforts of the UAGA for organizing the C’ship constantly attracting the Golfers across and promoting the cause of the golfers.
