DEMOW: Two persons belonging to the Hindu Bengali community allegedly committed suicide after getting D-voter notice.

One incident took place in Udalguri district on Sunday and another few days ago in Kharupetia. “The State Government has the responsibility to protect genuine citizens but the government has not been able to protect genuine citizens due to which people are committing suicide out of fear,” said Rabindra Ghosh, secretary of All Assam Bengali Youth Students’ Federation (AABYSF), Sivasagar District Committee.

He said that NRC State Coordinator Prateek Hajela had failed to ensure error-free NRC update process.
