All Assam Football Players Association to Organize Charity Matches in Memory of Apruba Phukan

Guwahati: All Assam Football Players Association (AAFPA) will organize two charity matches in memory of Apurba Phukan who died last year in a tragic road accident. The two matches will be played between AAFPA and Karbi Anglog XI at Diphu and Dongkamukam on July 13 and 22nd respectively.

Disclosing the news to a media conference the president of the AAFPA Hem Das said, “At least 13 state players, who are currently playing in different ISL and I League teams, have come forward to play the charity matches. The players list included Vinit Rai, Halicharan Narzary, Alen Deory , Pranjal Bhumij, Subham Chhetri, Pragyan Gogoi and Rakesh Pradhan.

Apurba, died in a road accident last year near Naharkotia, represented Assam in Santosh Trophy and also turned up for city based clubs like ASEB Sports Club, Maharana Athletic Club, and FC Green Valley.

Among others present in the media briefings were the secretary of the AAFPA Durga Boro and some of the players who would be the part of these charity matches. In a brief speech Pranjal Bhumij, a member of Mumbai City FC, said, “It’s a great opportunity for the players of the state to get together for a cause. We are looking forward to it.” Durga added: ‘The funds raised from the two matches will be donated to Apurba Phukan’s family”.
