All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU) Observes Foundation Day, Demands Bodoland State

Kokrajhar: The All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU) on Friday observed its 52nd foundation day at Uriumghat in Golaghat district with a day-long programme. With the theme Live, Work and Prosper, ABSU called upon all to build an illegal weapon and violence free nation and world, to build a peaceful and responsive society and to ensure quality education from KG to PG. The students’ body demanded permanent solution of Bodoland statehood demand, land and political rights to the Bodos living in Assam outside proposed Bodoland area and implementation of clause no 8 of BTC accord, granting ST(H) status to Bodos in Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao in the meeting. They also demanded to ensure all-round protection of the tribal people of Assam.

The union paid condolence to the great souls who had sacrificed their valuable lives during the Bodoland movement and also to the Swahid Jawan Maneswar Basumatary of Kalbari, Tamulpur under Baksa district along with 49 Jawans who lost their life for the nation in the brutal and tragic attack of terrorist in J & K on February 14.

In the CWC sitting, the union demanded the BJP led Union government to resolve the Bodoland issue by taking pragmatic policy decision as assured in the Election Manifesto in 2014 and appeals to hold tripartite talk immediately before completion of the Government for permanent solution. The ABSU also reiterated constitutional and political safeguard to the Bodos living outside proposed Bodoland and ST Hill status to the Bodos living in Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao district. They also urged the government of Assam to implement the Office Memorandum on establishment of Directorate of Education for Bodo and other Tribal languages for smooth functioning and administration of all the Bodo medium schools from lower primary to university level. The union also demands to provincialize all the remaining Bodo medium schools/institutions without any condition taking into account the largest tribal medium education of India for the interest to provide the fundamental rights.
