KOKRAJHAR: The All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU) on Monday slammed the State government for being apathetic towards Bodo medium education in Assam and alleged that the government was planning to destroy the Bodo medium and Bodo language. The education secretary of the ABSU, Kastom Basuamtary, in a press meet held at Bodofa House, Kokrajhar on Monday, said that Bodo medium schools were facing the threat of survival in Assam. He said that in all 11 districts, there were 517 venture LP schools, 149 venture ME schools and 103 venture high schools. The ABSU, he said, had already carried out a survey on the present state of Bodo medium schools in eleven districts of Assam and found that Bodo medium schools were facing severe problems. In Kokrajhar district, the number of venture LP schools is 128, number of venture ME schools is 23, number of venture high schools is 13, number of single teachers in LP schools is 84, number of vacant posts of Science teachers in ME schools is 44, number of vacant posts of Hindi teachers in ME schools is 18, number of vacant posts of assistant teachers in ME schools is 42, number of vacant posts of Science teachers in HS and HSS schools is 42, number of vacant posts of Hindi teachers in HS and HSS schools is 37 and number of vacant posts of assistant teachers in HS and HSS schools is 84.

Similarly, the number of vacant posts of teachers in schools in other districts is also high. The ABSU has given August 31 as the deadline for solution of problems of Bodo medium in Assam and failing which, the ABSU will start fresh and vigorous mass agitation against the pathetic attitude of the State government, said Basuamtary.

The president of Kokrajhar district committee, ABSU, Janak Uzir also said the pathetic attitude of the Government of Assam was very unfortunate. He alleged that the State government had taken up a policy to destroy the Bodo medium in Assam but the ABSU would not allow this to happen.

The ABSU demanded immediate filing up of vacant posts across Assam, appointment in LP schools where single teachers are running the school, appointment of adequate Mathematics, Science and Hindi teachers and provincialization of all Bodo medium schools from primary to High school etc.
