All Cases of Assam Youths Missing in Kashmir to be Probed by state Police, IB says Most Have Joined Islamic Terror Groups

Guwahati: Following the arrest of Hizbul Mujahideen operative Qamer uz Zaman from Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh, who originally hails from Hojai District of Assam, the Assam Police is on its toes and are now busy investigating into a long list of missing persons.

Hizbul operative Zaman, who had left Assam in 2012 was actually working at a garment shop in Kashmir and was suddenly reported missing. His family back here in Assam had even lodged a missing complaint.

Reportedly, the Police informed the Media that this is not a single case where someone from Assam has been reported missing in Kashmir.

Many have gone missing after leaving Assam for work. Such cases have been reported from Kashmir and also the Middle East. The police suspect that most of these persons may have joined the ranks of terror.

According to a media report by the Intelligence Bureau, they said that such boys from Assam who have left the state for job and have gone missing have high chances of joining terror groups.

The plan of action under which such groups operate is that after providing them with training, they are sent back to their hometown on missions over a period of time.

In most cases, their mission brief is to carry forward the activities of groups such as the Lashkar-e-Tayiba and Hizbul Mujahideen in Assam, which has over the years become a hotbed and safe-heaven for the terrorists.

The IB in a recent report has said that security agencies would have to tread very carefully in the days to come. There has to be constant monitoring of those persons whose names are missing in the NRC. Such persons would be very vulnerable and could be picked up easily by terror groups. The IB warns that several local terror groups have already been instructed to rope in such persons and form a formidable force in Assam.

Taking advantage of minority-based issues such as Rohingya Muslims and the NRC issue, these Kashmiri and Pakistani terror outfits have accelerated their recruitment drives in an active manner.
