All Koch Rajbonshi Students’ Union (AKRSU) Demands ST Status To Six Communities

LAKHIMPUR: At a time when the Koch Rajbongshi Sanmilani declared ‘BJP hatao’ campaign across the State regarding the long-pending issue of granting ST status to the six communities of Assam- Koch, Chutia, Ahom, Moran, Matak and tea tribes, the Lakhimpur unit of the All Koch Rajbonshi Students’ Union (AKRSU) staged protest over this issue.

On Thursday, the activists of the organization burnt the effigies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal at Main Chariali of North Lakhimpur town in order to demand ST status to the six communities immediately. The protesters, led by president Dipak Borah, shouted slogans in support of their demand. Assistant secretary Bibekjyoti Koch, academic secretary Amrit Borah, social service secretary Biswajyoti Rajkhowa along with other activists were present in the programme. The protesters warned the Union and State governments not to adapt shrewd politics regarding the issue.

On the other hand, as per the instruction of the Sadou Asom Koch Rajbonshi Sanmilani, the Lakhimpur district body of the organization, along with AKRSU, staged a protest against alleged betrayal by the Union government regarding the issue of granting ST status to the six communities.
