All Meghalaya SSA School Teachers Association Calls For Early Solution To Salary Issue

A REPORTER

SHILLONG: The All Meghalaya SSA School Teachers Association (AMSSASTA) has urged the State government to resolve the salary issue of its members at the earliest. It may be mentioned that the central body of the Association in its meeting held at Khasi National Dorbar Hall here on March 8 last, had resolved to issue an ultimatum of five days to the State Government, that if it failed to respond to its demand, the Association would go for indefinite school strike throughout the State.

However subsequently, the AMSSASTA Executive agreed to withdraw the indefinite school strike after the Education Minister Lakmen Rymbui stated in the Assembly Session on March 14 that the salary of SSA teachers would be released soon.

“Based on his promise on the floor of the august House, we called off our indefinite strike and urged all the SSA teachers to kindly attend to their work as usual,” said DS Lamare, the general secretary of AMSSASTA central body here on Sunday.

He further stated that “the Association thanks Mayralborn Syiem, MLA Nongpoh, for time and again raising the issues of the SSA teaching community.”

The Association also thanked all its esteemed members for their support and cooperation. The Association also expressed its gratitude to the State Education Minister and the State Government for their efforts to resolve “the critical need of the SSA teachers who are always found caught between the devil and the deep blue sea.”

The Association urged the State government to seriously look into this matter and to also work out a pragmatic solution for this chronic problem so that the SSA teachers get their monthly salaries or at least at an equal short interval of every two months.
