All Moran Students’ Union in Doomdooma reiterates demand for Scheduled Tribe status to Moran community

DOOMDOOMA: In a representative meeting convened by All Moran Students’ Union (AMSU) at Doomdooma Marwari Panchayati Bhavan on Saturday, it was resolved to demand Scheduled Tribe (ST) status, besides according to full autonomy under sixth schedule of the Constitution to the Morans. It was also resolved to urge the ministerial group formed for the purpose to submit their report within the month of May with a positive and clear stand on the matter.

The meeting, which was presided over by Arun Jyoti Moran, president of AMSU, was inaugurated by its adviser Dipon Moran. The meeting adopted a number of important resolutions on allotment of Miyadi patta to the Morans without having to pay the premium, permanent construction of Dirak- Sumoni dyke, permanent solution of erosion problem in Kordoiguri area and proper rehabilitation of flood-affected people, to take up erosion protective measures in Baghjan area by OIL as per agreement reached, immediate starting of classes in two newly-constructed ITIs at Dirak and Ledo, to provincialize the Science stream of Doomdooma College and make it a full-fledged one by appointing the required number of teachers and employees and to start a girls’ college at Doomdooma.

Besides these, they also demanded to construct one RCC bridge over Na-Dihing River in the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border and to set up one state-of-the-art full-fledged hospital with all modern facilities in the eastern most part of the State.
