Amit Shah’s Road Show in Kolkata turns violent, Police resorted to Lathi Charge

Guwahati: In yet another shocking incident, West Bengal Police on Tuesday evening resorted to lathi-charge after a clash broke out between the alleged Trinamool Congress and BJP workers at the BJP National President Amit Shah's roadshow in Kolkata.

As per reports, a two-wheeler was set on fire right at the gates of Vidyasagar College, about a km from Calcutta University.

Also, the Statue of Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar was vandalized at Vidyasagar College in the clashes that broke out at BJP President Amit Shah's roadshow today.

NEDA convener and Assam Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma were also present in the Amit Shah’s road-show.

It has also come to light the angry protesters had waved black flags in protest against the BJP president’s visit in the region.

Meanwhile, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said, "I've learned that some BJP hooligans have vandalized Vidyasagar college. We will not let go of this easily. We will give a befitting reply."

Mamata Banerjee said, "I am ashamed of this. They [BJP] have brought outsiders to riot in Kolkata. I ask our education minister to rush to the spot and check the situation of Delhi Gunda [hooligan] netas."

It may be mentioned that soon after the incident, the security of the BJP National President at Kolkata had been beefed up.
