MANGALDAI: In an exceptional initiative to keep the memory of a four-year old boy and to extend inspiration, encouragement and assistance to a victim of an unfortunate accident, a newly formed non-government and non-profit voluntary organization, with the active cooperation of a city-based Durga Mandir Committee, on the auspicious occasion of Vijaya Dashami, offered a scooty to the victim of the unfortunate incident.

The voluntary organization ‘Abhighna’, formed in loving memory of four-year old Abhighna, in a largely-attended Vijaya Dashami celebration at Dakhsin Borsojai Maidam Durga Mandir at Lalmati in Guwahati, offered the scooty to Karishma Goyari of village No. 1 Katli Mari under Mussolpur Police Station in Baska district.

Karishma, daughter of marginal village farmer Santosh Goyari and Chonila Goyari, at the age of 16 in 2015, came in contact with a hanging live wire of 11,000 volt and got electrocuted. Though she was lucky to survive, her left arm had to be amputated during the course of treatment. On the basis of a news story aired by a leading electronic news channel, a number of noble-hearted people came forward to offer her financial assistance. Former activist of the Assam Movement, Hiren Kumar Saharia decided to form the voluntary organization Abhighna and with contribution from well-wishers, bought a Scooty for Karishma.

Abhighna will also organize a day-long camp on October 25 at Dakshin Borsojai Maidam Durga Mandir to distribute reusable dress materials, particularly warm clothes, among the needy.
