AMSU Indefinite Economic Blockade hits normal life in Assam-Arunachal Pradesh

Tinsukia: The indefinite economic blockade since Sunday morning by All Moran Students’ Union (AMSU) had paralyzed normal life in various parts of the states in Assam Arunachal Pradesh today.

The restriction on the movements of the commercial vehicles from Tinsukia to various nearby Arunachal’s destinations including Namsai, Changlang and Tirap districts had hit the normal business scenario causing an artificial shortage of essential commodities.

It may be mentioned that All Moran Students’ Union launched the indefinite economic blockade demanding to scrap the controversial Citizenship Amendment Bill, 2016, granting ST Status to Moran community, conferring Permanent Residential Certificate (PRC) to the indigenous Moran people living in Arunachal Pradesh and scrapping the decision to privatized oil fields.

The agitations had severely affected the movements of commercial vehicles including the transportation of oil, domestic gas and other goods and commodities of daily needs.

Around 100 plus coal trucks coming from Ledu had been stopped at National Highway 37 in Makum since yesterday.

Also, coal-carrying trains were also stopped in Makum Railway Junction today.

Speaking before the media, AMSU President, Arun Jyoti Moran demanded immediate scrapping of the controversial Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016, He also lambasted the failures of the Arunachal government in conferring the long-promised PRC to the bonafide Moran residents of Arunachal Pradesh.

Earlier, the disgruntled Moran student activists at Makum, Tinsukia and Kakopather shouted slogans ‘NO PRC NO REST’, ‘Oppose Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016’, ‘Save North East from Illegal Migration’ to target the Arunachal government for being indifferent towards the issue of granting Permanent Resident Certificate (PRC) after several promises and assurance.
