Anti-India Activities Won’t Be Allowed On Our Soil: Rokebul Haque

NEW DELHI: Bangladesh acting high commissioner to India Rokebul Haque has said that anti-India activities will not be allowed on Bangladesh soil. New Delhi, on the other hand, said that a number of airlines are at work to make Guwahati an aero hub.

“It has been acknowledged by the Government of India that Bangladesh soil is not used for anti-India activities, and which is why our relations with India have been strengthened in the recent past,” said Haque in New Delhi on Friday.

Rokebul Haque was addressing on the concluding day of the two-day Northeast Business at the national capital. He said that both the countries have developed their relations in all sectors, tremendously.

“Maximum importance needs to be accorded on regional cooperation. Due to its location, Bangladesh can play a catalytic role in boosting regional cooperation,” Haque said, adding “Bangladesh ports can be used for the benefit of the entire region.”

The programme was organized by the Indian Chamber of Commerce. “Northeast is a region that can be extremely vibrant. It’s a matter of putting right kind of policies supported by hard and soft infrastructure,” said Sudhanshu Pandey, additional secretary in the Ministry of Commerce. He said that connectivity is the topmost priority of the government.

“To convert Guwahati into an aero hub, a number of airlines are working on it. In fact, the Ministry of Commerce has decided to give viability gap funding to the north-eastern states and a plan in this connection has already been worked out,” the additional secretary said.

“We’re planning to take fresh agricultural products from the north-eastern states to the international market,” said Pandey, highlighting organic farming in the north-eastern states.
