Anundoram Borooah Awards given away

KOKRAJHAR, January 31: The district administration of Kokrajhar on Sunday distributed computers under the Anundoram Borooah Award Scheme, 2015 to the meritorious students who secured first division in the last HSLC examition, at a ceremony held at Basic Training Centre, Kokrajhar. The Deputy Commissioner of Kokrajhar, Madhav Prasad Sharma chaired the meeting.

The Director of Education, BTC, Rabi Sankar Borgoyary said the Anundoram Borooah Award to meritorious students of HSLC who secured first division was started in 2005 and the distribution of Tablet PC under Chief Minister’s special award to the students who secured second division was also introduced. He said this year altogether 886 students of Kokrajhar district got first division of which 517 are from Kokrajhar subdivision, 268 from Gossaigaon subdivision and 101 students from Porbhotjhora sub division. He said the Kokrajhar subdivision had the highest number of students with star marks and distinction holders, with 94 stars mark holders and 28 students with distinction.

Addressing the gathering of parents and students, the Deputy Chief of BTC Kampa Borogyary said the BTC administration had taken lots of initiatives for the improvement of education in the region. He said the council had taken up special initiatives for the meritorious students to encourage them and to get admission in higher educatiol institutions.  He said the council had already decided and announced to give fincial aid to the top 20 and top 10 students to a tune of Rs. 2 lakh. He also said the BTC had been giving fincial aid of Rs 2 lakh to the meritorious students who are getting admission in India’s premier technical and magement institutes like IIT and IIM. The council in the recent winter assembly session also decided to extend fincial help to the students who are getting admission in medical and other tiol technical institutes, he said, adding that from this year, the BTC would provide free coaching for the intending candidates for IAS and IPS.

Earlier, the computers were ceremonially distributed by BTC Deputy Chief Kampa Borgoyary to meritorious students and the function was also attended by BTC EM of Sports and Youth Welfare Doneswar Goyary and president of Boro Somaj Afat Rajen Boro.
