A REPORTER

SHILLONG: Senior leader and working president of the United Democratic Party (UDP) Bindo M Lanong said that any form of violence is condemnable. Speaking to The Sentinel, Lanong said, “If a man or a woman has been brutally assaulted such actions should be condemned as breaking the law by committing such acts of violence by anyone is not acceptable.”

He further said that any form of violence towards anybody cannot be accepted, and must be dealt as per law.

When asked, he said the State government should take up this issue seriously and the police department should conduct an intensive investigation so that more perpetrators who were involved in assaulting CSWO president Agnes Kharshiing and her colleague Amita Sangma are arrested.

It may be noted that on Friday (November 9) two people were arrested in connection with the murder attempt on the women’s rights activist at East Jaintia Hills district, the suspects, Elphon Dkhar and Meklison Siangshai, were arrested in Kongong area in a pre-dawn raid.

It may be reminded that the attack on the activists took place a day after Kharshiing detected five coal-laden trucks parked at Mawiong Rim in Shillong, which were later seized by the police. The activists had gone to Tuber to follow up the case.
