APCU's 11th biennial convention underway

Bongaigaon, April 29: The 11th biennial convention of Assam Press Correspondents’ Union started in Bongaigaon from Saturday with a three-day long programme. Kunja Mohan Ray from the reception committee said that the programme on Sunday started with APCU’s flag hoisting by Manoj Sing, president of APCU, which was followed by reception committee flag hoisting by president of reception committee and State Food and Civil Supply Minister Phani Bhusan Choudhury.

“Twenty-four flags were hoisted by 24 dignitaries. Tribute was paid. A colourful procession was taken out. The main open meeting was inaugurated by GC Sikdar, of Bongaigaon Refinery and presided over by Manoj Sing. Several noted persons, including Shovit Kumar Chetry, advisor of APCU, Rajib Prakash Barua, Director, Information and Public Relation Department of Assam and many others were present,” he said.

Addressing the gathering, Shovit Kumar Chetry said that journalists were mostly exploited in their field. “We demand to stop this exploitation. We demand for immediate implementation of Majhithia Board’s directives so that exploitation of journalists could stop,” he said. On the occasion, 10 journalists were awarded.
