Jorhat, May 4: Along with the rest of the State, in Jorhat too APDCL Workers Union, Employees Union and Pensioners Association staged a two-hour dharna over privatization move at the premises of the Bidyut Bhawan, the district headquarters and the sub-stations at Teok, Mariani, Titabor and Dergaon while raising slogans against the BJP government. The protesters alleged that the Government had failed to fulfill the promises made and instead was planning to hand over power stations to private party. This has led to confusion as many of the jobs of many employees have seemingly run into the realm of uncertainty, while the BJP made tall promises during its poll campaign, assuring to regularize jobs of several hundreds of casual workers. On this count, the protesters allege, that the BJP-led government in Assam has totally failed.

Biswanath Chariali: The Biswanath Chariali unit of Assam State Power Workers’ Union and ASEB Pensioners’ Association staged a two hour long sit-in demonstration programme on Friday protesting APDCL’s proposed privatization of 47 numbers of 33/11 KV sub stations in the State. They also opposed the handing over of historical monuments to private parties under government’s ‘Adopt a Heritage’ policy. Later, the protesters submitted a memorandum to the Chairman of APDCL through AGM Pranab Kumar Gogoi.
