Apex Professional University(APU) impasse: Deputy Commissioner constitutes fact-finding panel

ITANAGAR, July 23: Amid the stalemate prevailing in the private-run Apex Professional University(APU) campus at Pasighat in East Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh, Deputy Commissioner of the district Tamiyo Tatak has on Saturday constituted an 11 member fact-finding committee (FFC) for a “detailed inquiry into the functioning of the varsity.

The fact-finding committee, headed by ADC (Headquarter) Tatdo Borang, has been asked to submit its report to the DC within a period of seven days, an official communiqué informed on Monday.

The DC, in his ‘order’ said that the FFC will go into the details of APU and its status, its owner,shareholders, compliance of UGC norms, notification issued by the Government of Arunachal Pradesh(GoAP) for establishment of APU, parking of endowment funds, fee structures, HR management, faculty position, infrastructure development, library facilities, functioning under lease rent building of the (UD & Housing) GoAP, frequent change of university authorities, etc in their inquiry.

Further, the Committee shall also suggest action required to be taken up by the District Administration for resolving the issues on the lines of the discussion held in the coordination meeting held on July 21 at Siang Guest House, Pasighat without further delay.

A release from Adi Students’ Union (AdiSU) said an emergency coordination meeting was held under the chairmanship of East Siang DC at Siang Guest House involving all stakeholders including AdiSU members and officials of the university “to resolve the closing down of Apex Professional University, Pasighat by AdiSU with immediate effect from July 19 as there is serious apprehension that the university is being run in violation of University Grants Commission and State Gazette Act, under which it was established in the year 2013”.

The meeting concluded with the formation of fact finding committee, AdiSU said, adding that “all academic activities in the Apex Professional University, Pasighat will remain suspended” till submission of the FFC report.

The AdiSU alleged that the University has zero endowment funds and infrastructure development and failed to obtain proper land and land documents for establishment of a proper campus.

Reportedly, the officials of Apex Professional University during the meeting admitted the allegations levelled against by the AdiSU.
