APIC imposes penalty on engineer

Itanagar, May 31: The Arunachal Pradesh Information Commission (APIC) has, under the provision of Right to Information Act, 2005, imposed a penalty of Rs 25,000 on an engineer of PHE & Water Supply division at Aalo in West Siang district for refusing to furnish information to an RTI applicant. The commission imposed the penalty on executive engineer Kirba Sora, who is also the designated Public Information Officer (PIO), for refusing to furnish information to the applicant. The information sought by one Marto Tali, on January 15 this year, was pertaining to the implementation and renovation of water supply at Gemoyijo of Gemo Tali village.

The APIC further directed the officer to furnish the information within June 15 next failing which the commission will invoke section 20 (2) of the RTI Act and recommend for disciplinary action as per the service rule, an official communiqué informed on Thursday.
