Army bicycle expedition flagged off from Tezu

Kohima: The populace in the border areas of Arunachal Pradesh due to the remoteness of the region has limited knowledge of avenues, which are available to them to join the Armed Forces. With the aim of spreading this awareness and also to foster a spirit of adventure amongst the youth in the area, Lekhapani Battalion of Dao Division organized a cycle expedition, which was flagged off from Tezu on Jan 5.

The Expedition team comprising of ten soldiers would cycle the arduous route to Kibithu, passing through Salangam, Hayuliang, Changwinti and Walong. In doing so, the team would have traversed more than 450 kilometers in the treacherous terrain with altitudes varying from 600 ft to 7000 ft.

The expedition team will interact with the local youth all along the route to educate them about various career opportunities in the Indian Army. They would also be distributing pamphlets that describe these avenues for the benefit of boys and girls residing in these far flung areas. The cycle expedition is scheduled to culminate on Jan 13.
