JAGIROAD: A group of drunken youths on June 14 manhandled an Indian Army personnel on NH-37 at Deusal under Jagiroad Police Station. Sources said that the vehicle in which the Army personnel, Biswadeep Boruah along with his family was going from Kampur in Nagaon district to Guwahati airport to leave for Pulwama in Kashmir, was blocked on the NH-37 at Deusal at about 4.30 am by a Scorpio car. A group of 3-4 drunken youths came out of the Scorpio and brutally beat up the driver of the car, Dharmeswar Das alleging that the driver did not give way to the Scorpio to overtake.

The driver explained that because of a truck ahead he could not do so but the youths refused to listen to him and allegedly beat him up mercilessly. One of the drunken youths, Nayan Pathak allegedly threatened Biswadeep Boruah who was on his way to report to the Assam Regiment at Pulwama in Kashmir on that day. Meanwhile, police arrived at the spot and booked Nayan Pathak of Silbhanga under Jagiroad Police Station. However, the other youths managed to flee.

Biswadeep Boruah lodged an FIR at Jagiroad Police Station. He could not leave for Kashmir that day. People here alleged that the police were reluctant to check anti-social activities in the area and hence hooliganism was on the rise.
