Arunachal Civil Society slams BJP chief Amit Shah’s remarks on CAB

Itanagar: Concerned over the repeated statement of the ruling dispensation during the ongoing election campaign rallies, with the most recent one by BJP national president Amit Shah, to bring back the controversial Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016, if the party is voted to power again, the Arunachal Civil Society (ACS), on Wednesday strongly condemned Shah’s statement terming it “unacceptable and against the sentiments of the entire Northeast people”.

Slamming Shah’s remarks, the ACS alleged that the CAB which the BJP was desperately trying to bring in justifying it as a weapon to weed out illegal migrants from Assam will, in turn, result in flooding of illegal Bangladeshis.

It observed that passage of the Bill will negatively affect not only demography of the entire Northeast but its people, their culture and identity.

Terming the BJP president’s statement as an insult to the sentiments of the people of whole Northeast States, it asked all political parties, leaders, student unions, intellectuals to “stand united against such evil design of BJP party to destroy whole Northeast”.

“The ACS has stood strongly against CAB from the very beginning and will leave no stone unturned to make sure it does not get passed in near future,” affirmed its chairman Patey Tayum.

Further clarifying that the ACS is not against any political party but CAB, Tayum warned that any attempt to dilute the indigenous people will invite stiff resistance.

It is worth mentioning here that the Saffron party in its election manifesto has said that the party will bring the Citizenship Amendment Bill after the polls.
