Arunachal: Commissioner CWD Inspects Child Care Institutions Run By OWA And Other Missionaries Of Charity

ITANAGAR: In the wake of increasing reports of child sexual abuse in Child Care Institutions (CCI) nationwide, Commissioner, Women and Child Development (WCD) Gamli Padu and Director, WCD T.P. Loyi, inspected the CCI run by Oju Welfare Association (OWA) and other missionaries of Charity here at Naharlagun on Tuesday.

The duo interacted with the children and staff of both the CCIs, which are registered under the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015 and is providing temporary shelter, food, counseling, vocational training and schooling to children in need of care and protection as per the provisions of the Act.

Besides they also visited Specialized Adoption Agency (SAA), Swadhar Greh and Women Helpline (WHL) run by OWA at Naharlagun and expressed their satisfaction on the management of the Institutions. As per Section 41 (1) of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015, all institutions whether run by State Govt. or by voluntary or non- governmental organizations, which are meant for housing children in need of care and protection are to be registered under the Act.
