Arunachal Forest Minister Nabam Rebia bats for naming State Science Centre after Vajpayee

Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Land Management, Environment and Forest Minister Nabam Rebia on Saturday suggested for naming the Arunachal Pradesh Science Centre here after former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee who had contributed immensely for the nation.

“I assured you to bring the proposal in the next Cabinet meeting slated for December 13 next,” the minister said while addressing the inaugural day of the three-day 18th All India annual conference of the heads of science centres and museums at Dorjee Khandu State Convention Centre here.

Rebia said, such asset should be named after one of the great soul Bharat Ratna Atal Behari Vajpayee who, contributed for the cause of the country.

Responding to a demand from Arunachal Pradesh State Council for Science & Technology (APSCST) Chairman Bamang Mangha, Rebia assured to provide land and forest clearance for construction of a proper road up to the Science Centre located at the Indira Gandhi Park, which is under the state forest department.

While appealing the young students present on the occasion, to strive hard to become scientists in their near future, the minister told them that the young Indians were shining all over the world in all spheres.

Welcoming the participants from various parts of the country, the minister hoped that the conference would be useful in formulating innovative ideas for growth of science in the state and urged the students to take maximum benefit out of the conference.

“The APSCST is playing its pivotal role in science and technology communication by generating awareness among the people by facilitating diffusion and dissemination of the technology at the grassroots level,” Rebia said.

The council has furthered the agenda of science, technology and innovation policy by building a strong network with the central government departments and organisations besides institutes of national importance to promote science & technology and innovation in the state, he added.

Rebia disclosed that he was apprised the National Council of Science Museum (NCSM) Kolkata had decided to provide Science Museo-Bus to spread the activities of science centre in the remote and border areas of the state and also to set up astro-park at the Innovation Hub and Digital Space Education Centre, being inaugurated during the day, to enrich its ambience.

In his thought-provoking keynote address Nehru Science Centre Mumbai, Director S M Khened dwelt at length on the history and growth of science in the country since independence and threw light on the ups and downs faced by the scientists and the country during the formative years.
