Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu resigns, Assembly dissolved till the new government swears in

ITANAGAR: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Sunday submitted his resignation along with his Council of Ministers to Governor Brig (retd) Dr BD Mishra and requested him to dissolve the sixth Legislative Assembly of the State.

The Governor accepted the resignation and requested Khandu and the Council of Ministers to continue till the new Government is sworn in.

Under the provisions of Article 174 (2) (b) of the Constitution of India, Dr Mishra accepted the advice of the Cabinet and signed the order dissolving the Assembly with immediate effect, an official communiqué said.

The Governor conveyed his appreciation to the Chief Minister for successfully running the State administration during his tenure.

The ruling BJP in the State has gained absolute majority to form the next government by winning 41 seats including three unopposed, in the House of 60.

The Opposition, Congress which won 42 seats during the 2014 Assembly elections in the State, remained satisfied with only four seats this time.

While debutant Janata Dal United (JDU) bagged seven seats, another new entrant National People’s Party (NPP) won five seats. One seat went to an Independent candidate.

The BJP also won both the Lok Sabha seats by a huge margin in the Himalayan State.
