Itanagar, July 31: The Arunachal Pradesh Government will regularize the teachers serving under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyaan (SSA) in the state on the basis of seniority and eligibility. The development came after the Itanagar Permanent Bench of Gauhati Court removed the legal complications on the matter yesterday.

Hearing a Writ petition Justice Manojit Bhuyan noted that ‘the facts leading to the present case has already been noticed by the court in the order dated January 22 this year with regard to the regularization of the services of the petitioners as well as teachers’.

Senior additional advocate general Kardak Ete and standing counsel for the Education department T Jamoh disclosed in the court that ‘in all probability the entire exercise for completing the process of regularization, as per seniority and eligibility would be completed within a period of 4 to 6 months. They had also brought to the notice of the court that the process of regularization could not proceed in view of the matters being sub-judiced.

“As the respondents have already taken a stand that a de-novo process for regularization of the petitioners and persons similarly situated would be undertaken, it is made clear that the pendency of the present writ petition would not operate as a bar to the respondents to carry out/ undertake the process of regular selection,” the court pointed out in its order.

For the last many years, the contractual teachers’ serving under the SSA, numbering more than 6500, have been demanding job regularization, proper implementation of Right to Education Act, maternity benefits and enhancement and monthly disbursement of their salaries.
