Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) MLAs To Stage Hunger Strike Against Bill Today

GUWAHATI: Demanding scrapping of the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2019, all the 14 MLAs of the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) will stage a 12-hour hunger strike at Dighalipukhuripar from 6 am onwards on January 24.

Talking to The Sentinel, Asom Gana Parishad working president Keshab Mahanta said, “We have been demanding that the Citizenship Bill be withdrawn. Even when we were a part of the ruling dispensation, we stuck to our guns; and we decided to snap ties with the BJP as we found that the Centre is determined to go ahead with the Bill. Several national leaders of the BJP have already openly expressed their views in favour of the Bill.”

Dwelling on the future stand of the AGP, Mahanta added, “However, the Asom Gana Parishad will carry on its agitation against the Bill until it is withdrawn. In fact, we’ll intensify our fight against the move to bring in the Bill.”
