Asom Gana Parishad stages torchlight rally against Citizenship Bill

Joysagar: Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) Sivasagar district committee has been opposing the proposed Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 and has also demanded that the government clears its stand over the proposed ST status proposal.

The AGP has warned the State Government not to play any electoral games over the burning issues of the State. The AGP district leaders and members marched the main streets of Sivasagar town on Friday evening with torches in their hands and staged protest against the BJP-led Union Government as well as against the State Government. Besides, the regional party also informed that they would contest the Sonowal Kachari and Mising Autonomous Council election without the alliance with the ruling BJP.

Meanwhile, the Sivasagar Anosusit Jati Chatra Sanstha and the Sivasagar Byabosaye Sanstha also staged sit-in on Friday in front of the Sivasagar DC’s office to oppose the proposed Citizenship (Amendment) Bill and later both the bodies submitted separate memoranda to the Sivasagar DC.
