Assam continue winning run in Santosh Trophy

GUWAHATI: Assam registered their second victory in the Santosh Trophy Soccer championship defeating Sikkim 3-1 in their third pool ‘B’ match held at Ludhiana today. The first half of the match ended 1-1 draw.

With this victory, Assam have now collected six points from three matches. The side will face Karnataka in their last group match on Monday.

Assam made dream start in the game this morning. They needed just three minutes to go ahead when Milan Basumatari, who was unmarked, didn’t make any mistake to put the ball in the net with nice placing. However Sikkim returned the goal in the 33rd minutes through Sonam Zangpo Bhutia.

Although Assam dominated remaining part of the first half but failed to score any more goals.

In the second half also Assam played attacking football as they badly needed full points from this game to stay in contention for the semi final berth. Finally Sirandeep Moran scored the much needed goal in the 85th minutes. Later Bishnu Bordoloi hammered the last nail in the coffin during the injury time. Meanwhile in another game of the same group Maharashtra defeated Punjab 2-1 to earn full points.
